Brunson Masterclass Puts Knicks Ahead
Jalen Brunson delivered an offensive masterclass, steering the New York Knicks to a crucial 126-97 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden, thereby seizing the series lead in their first-round playoff clash.
In this pivotal Game 5 of their best-of-seven series, which stood tied at 2-2 before tip-off, the Knicks seized control early, establishing a 13-point lead in the first quarter and never looking back. They maintained a commanding 16-point advantage at halftime (64-48) and extended their dominance to enter the final period with an 18-point cushion. The Knicks' collective strength was evident in their bench outscoring the Hawks' 38-24.
Brunson spearheaded the Knicks' attack with 39 points and 8 assists, while Karl-Anthony Towns recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, adding 6 assists. OG Anunoby also posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. For the Hawks, Jalen Johnson put up 18 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double effort, but it was insufficient against New York's offensive firepower.
With this decisive win, the Knicks now lead the series 3-2 and stand just one victory away from advancing to the next round.
