France Dominates Romania at U16 EuroBasket
France asserted its dominance at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket, dismantling Romania 78-31 in a commanding performance at the Pitesti Arena.
The French squad seized control early, establishing a 25-point lead by halftime (46-21) and never looking back.
A decisive 26-5 run in the third quarter ballooned the advantage to 46 points (72-26) entering the final period. France's suffocating defence, registering 21 steals and 7 blocks, forced 30 Romanian turnovers. Despite shooting 39% from the field (31/79), France's balanced scoring, bolstered by 25 points from its bench, proved overwhelming. Sharone Zomo led the charge with 16 points and 7 rebounds, complemented by Emma Gosselin's 14 points. For Romania, Bianca-Ioana Stan achieved a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Carina Ungureanu added 5 points and 9 boards, but it was not enough to counter France's offensive and defensive pressure.
This emphatic victory serves as a significant statement of intent for France in the tournament.
