Cholet Claims Betclic Elite Title in Overtime Thriller
Cholet snatched the Betclic Elite championship title, overcoming Lyon-Villeurbanne 80-75 in overtime to seal the series 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
The tension was palpable at the Astroballe as both teams battled fiercely for supremacy. After leading 35-31 at halftime, Villeurbanne saw Cholet claw back, holding only a slim 50-47 advantage entering the fourth quarter. However, ASVEL's defence faltered, committing 19 turnovers to Cholet's 13, while their shooting efficiency remained a concern, particularly from beyond the arc (21%).
Despite a strong showing from Paul Eboua, who posted 14 points and 8 rebounds, and 12 points from Shaquille Harrison off the bench, Villeurbanne could not counter Cholet's rebounding dominance (54-43). Mohamed Diarra grabbed 11 boards, and Jamuni McNeace contributed 12 points. The hosts' outside shooting proved insufficient (6/29), while Cholet, despite a late three-point drought, found the resolve to force overtime and secure the championship.
With this decisive victory, Cholet concluded their season in spectacular fashion, claiming the Betclic Elite crown.
