Joksimovic Powers Slovenia Past Lithuania
Stefan Joksimovic delivered a 22-point, 7-rebound, 4-assist performance to power Slovenia to an 83-76 victory over Lithuania at the FIBA U18 EuroBasket.
Slovenia built a commanding 16-point lead by halftime, taking a 45-29 advantage, fuelled by a decisive second quarter where they outscored Lithuania 27-13. However, Lithuania mounted a spirited comeback, trimming the deficit to just four points (61-57) entering the final period.
Despite a fierce Lithuanian charge, Slovenia held firm to seal the 83-76 win. Maks Ciperle added 15 points and five steals, while reserve Igor Stjepanovic chipped in 17 points and three steals, highlighting Slovenia's depth with 41 bench points to Lithuania's 28. Lithuania outrebounded Slovenia 41-30 and saw Ignas Stombergas pour in 27 points, but 18 turnovers hampered their efforts.
This victory serves as a significant statement for Slovenia in the tournament.
