Ronci's 27 not enough as Italy falls to Slovenia

Nicolo Ronci delivered a dazzling offensive display, scoring 27 points, but his effort proved insufficient as Italy succumbed to Slovenia, losing 70-64 at the FIBA U17 World Cup.

Despite shooting just 34% from the field (26/77) and a dismal 5% from three-point range (1/19), Italy remained competitive. Slovenia, holding a slim five-point lead at halftime (32-37), saw their advantage trimmed to just two entering the final period (53-55). However, a decisive 21-12 run by the Slovenians in the second quarter had provided a cushion they would ultimately protect.

Slovenia capitalized on their opportunities, converting 23 of 32 free throws and outrebounding Italy 45-34. Jakob Siftar led the Slovenian charge with 20 points, while Lun Jarc recorded a valuable double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ronci, despite receiving support from Lapo Santini's 7 rebounds, lacked consistent offensive help, with Federico Bagordo the only other Italian player to reach 4 points. Slovenia's bench also contributed significantly, outscoring Italy's 16-10, a factor that proved crucial in securing the win.
